What is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy?
-
KAP is a modern therapeutic approach that combines prescribed ketamine with psychotherapy to help shift deep emotional and mental patterns. The medicine creates a window of openness and neurochemical change, while therapy helps you explore and make sense of the experience. Together, they help you access and process experiences that are often unreachable in standard talk therapy.
KAP is not about checking out. It is about tuning in to yourself, your needs, and the parts of you that are ready to heal.
-
Ketamine helps calm the parts of the brain responsible for repetitive negative thoughts such as shame, fear, and hopelessness. It increases neuroplasticity, which is the brain’s ability to form new, healthier patterns. During a KAP session, this creates space to explore emotions, memories, and insights that might usually feel out of reach. When combined with therapy, these insights can be integrated in a way that leads to meaningful, long-term healing.
-
Each session is structured to feel safe, intentional, and well-supported.
50-Min Preparation Sessions
We’ll prepare you for your Ketamine dosing sessions, discussing expectations and the therapeutic process to ensure you feel informed and comfortable. We will meet 2-4 times for a 50-minute session before your first Ketamine dosing session. We will set intentions and practice grounding tools to help you feel centered and ready for the experience.
3 Hour Dosing Session
During your session, you’ll receive your prescribed Ketamine lozenge in a controlled, comfortable environment. You’ll relax in a reclined position. You may wear an eye mask and listen to soothing music while entering a reflective, inward-focused state, which lasts for 40 to 60 minutes. After the effects wear off, we take time to reflect on what came up, process your emotions, and apply the insights to your life in a practical and supportive way.
50-Min Integration Session
We alternate these three-hour dosing sessions with dedicated integration therapy sessions to support lasting transformation.
-
A typical course of treatment includes 6 to 8 ketamine dosing sessions, each followed by an integration session within the week to help process and make meaning of the experience.
We’ll work together to create a treatment plan that aligns with your unique healing goals. The frequency and pacing of sessions are flexible and will be guided by both your prescriber’s recommendations and what feels right for you.
